For me it’s hard to believe that something so large could have been built in a time before computers. Built back during a time where people actually used pencil, paper and their minds to calculate the correct dimensions and to build something so majestic. I look at the Hunting Island Lighthouse as a thing of beauty but in truth it was built as a safety measure to warn ships to stay away due to sandbars, currents and other wrecks. Do you think you could take on a challenge to build something like this now? No cranes, no CAD blueprints, just good old strong backs and lots of determination. To me this is one BIG accomplishment!
Rain rain rain…that’s when I start thinking about the Keys
Key West Lighthouse – Rumor has it that Ernest Hemingway used the light to find his way home if he got lost, since his house is just across the street from the lighthouse. A light that big would come in handy after having a few too many at Sloppy Joe’s Bar.
