TimesDispatch.com | Finding a joke even in his death
This is where you would find a short, witty introductory sentence about Fred Clark’s life, but no one could write it better than he did.
Clark’s self-penned obituary appeared in Sunday’s Times-Dispatch — nearly a full column of his legendary humor. He wrote those last words in December, when he was perfectly healthy.
Among Clark’s self-deprecating final words:
“During his life, he excelled at mediocrity.”
“His sons said of Fred, ‘He was often wrong, but never in doubt.'”
“When his family asked what they remembered about Fred, they fondly recalled how Fred never peed in the shower — on purpose.”
