Monday monday

Well my computer seems to be running a lot better now with its new CPU fan. I check the bios logs and sure enough it started failing around mid December. Luckily it didn’t quit all together and cause me to lose everything. Well todays a long day and I’ll be heading off to school in a little while. I wonder if I’ll find out how many extra points I get in my Operations Mgmt class for working on the Mardi Gras float? Too bad the whole thing was rained out..they didn’t even reschedule it. Maybe I’ll just ask someone today why they do that every time. How much trouble would it be to delay it one day due to rain? Maybe thats the reason there is a low student turn out for these things.. I mean I’m a little ticked because I put 6 hours into something that got scrapped a couple hours later due to rain. I think the float we built for the School of Business would have won too. Ours was looking really too. It was a huge TV that was cut out, and had a American Bandstand theme to it. We had 6 dancers all dressed from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s that would be dancing inside the tv, and 30 or so others in period dress dancing around on the ground durning the parade.
I’m going to see if I can find out why the schools policy on events is to cancel due to weather and not reschedule today too.. I’m curious. (and they wonder why student turnout to events are low)

Off to class.. be back later!

Icy Morning Down South

The sound of cracking and breaking wood woke up around 1am and on top of that I wasn’t feeling so well. I don’t think my dinner was sitting too well and was trying to make a break for it. After finding the Pepto and being determined that I was not going to get sick, I took a peek outside, but it was just too dark to see anything. This morning I was up and ready to take some pictures..its not every day that we have ice coating our trees. I bundled up and took a few pictures..staying away from the large pine trees that are prone to fall right now. Across the street I could hear limbs falling and trees crackling. Even the air outside smells like pine from all the broken trees. We didn’t lose any trees, but there are several large limbs down next door, and on the land behind us. Several of our trees are drooping, but none have given up yet. I would have taken a few more pictures to share, but the rain started back and my camera was getting soaked.

Ice

Longleaf Pine

Just one mile down the road and there was no more ice! Very weird!! I guess that’s what we get from living up on a hill!

Boo! Is it snowing yet?

Miss me? Well things have been a little crazy around here.. not to mention some problems with my computer lately. So if you tried to access my blog more than likely you couldn’t get to it, and if you could it was problably all messed up. We’ll things are back to normal for the most part, and I’ll be working on getting the layout back up sometime later. On the plus side our ISP increased our download speed from 3 mpbs to 5 mbps. I can really tell a difference on downloads now.

The weather turned nasty today. Sounds like sleet outside right now and it has rain mixed with it too. I went to school this morning to help with building the ‘School of Business’ float and get things ready for the AUM mardi gras celebration. Work on the float started around 8am only to be rained out at 6pm. I left around 4pm and the weather was looking rough, and sure enough by the time I was half way home the rain started. I had though about going back down for the parade, but I did manage to get a few beads and some moon pies before I left. Did you know they make orange moon pies??? Anyway everything was rained out again..just like almost every year I’ve been there. I think one year the celebrations did go off as scheduled…that’s if you forget about the tornado warning that was going on at the time just a county away.

See you tomorrow! Hmm I wonder if J wants to earn some of these beads I got today! ;-)

10:50pm: Yep.. I just looked outside and we have sleet, rain, and snow. Nothing on the ground yet, but who knows what will be there in the morning. I’m sure glad we got the furnace fixed last weekend!

Camp Out

Well the fireplace kept most of the house pretty toasty last night. Around midnight we called it a night..I was tired of watching Trading Spaces and their new special episode Trading Castles. Our bedroom was rather cool (its all the way at the opposite end of the house) so we camped out in the livingroom in front of the fire last night. The dogs didn’t understand at first why the humans were sleeping on the floor instead of in their own bed. One problem…I like it dark, and the fireplace kept it pretty bright! There’s a fix for that..just slide on down into the sleeping bag and cover your eyes!

Ok..the repairman is here.. hopefully we’ll have our heat back soon.

UPDATE: 11:30 am.. YEAH we have heat!

It

Wow.. we’re in the low 70’s but tonight its going down into the 20’s! Talk about a drop in temps! Hey and guess what?? Our heat went out this morning! I put a call in to the home warranty people and they gave me the name of a local service that would take our call. Usually we’re told to give them 4 hours to call us, then call them if we haven’t heard. Well I haven’t heard, so I called the heating company. The lady that answered the phone said she hadn’t heard from the warranty people.. so I called them (warranty company). She put me on hold..called the heating company, told them about our problem and asked them if they could make a emergency service call because the weather was to drop into the 30’s tonight, and 20’s tomorrow night. They said no..so she called another service company in our area. Within a hour the new company called and said they would be out tomorrow morning to see what they could do. It’s a good thing we have a gas fireplace! Looks like tonight we’ll be camping in the living room tonight too . If it were to get really cold we could always go down stairs since the basement has a separate heating system..so we do have a backup plan..just in case that blizzard heads south! Ok.. off to do some grocery shopping before it starts getting chilly again.
